Rider Courses

Thank you for your interest in the ABATE of North Dakota sponsored Motorcycle Safety Program. The following will give you some information about what courses we are offering and requirements.

All participants MUST be at least 14 years of age at the time of the first day of class.  All students must present a signed waiver upon the arrival for the classroom session.  Students under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian signature on the waiver.  For students in the 14-15 year old age group, NDDOT specifies that they cannot take a motorcycle permit test without having participated or registered in the Motorcycle Safety course.

All classes are subject to change or cancel due to inclement weather (snow, heavy rains, lightning or extremely high winds). Safety is our foremost concern so if we have to reschedule a class we will attempt to contact you at the phone number you provide.  The RiderCoach will make the decision so if you are not contacted, go to the class as you are scheduled.  If you are not contacted and you do not attend your scheduled time, you will not pass the course and your registration fee will be non-refundable.

Course Descriptions:

Basic RiderCourse

The Basic RiderCourse (BRC) is ideal for beginners or people that need a refresher course.  Some riders take this class several times until they feel comfortable enough for riding their own motorcycle. You do not need to have your permit or license for this class. (The permit test can be completed either before or after taking our course). The class is about 12 hours in length with approximately 4 hours spent in the class and the remainder on the range. The class portion is completed before the range portion.

The registration fee for the class is $100.00 (non-refundable). We operate on a tight schedule. If you are not present at roll call, you will forfeit your seat in the class and your registration fee.

Course includes classroom and on-cycle training with Motorcycle Safety Foundation Nationally Certified RiderCoaches.  You must participate in all sessions and must pass a written and riding exam to receive a Course Completion Card.

The Basic RiderCourse includes a 25 question multiple choice test that you are required to get a grade of 80% or more to pass. The Student Handbook and instructions are mailed to the address you provide.  All participants should answer the 175 questions in the back of the Student Handbook prior to attending the classroom portion.  The classroom test questions are based on the Student Handbook information.

If you do not receive your Student Handbook at least a week prior to class, click on 'Contact Us' located at the left hand corner of the Home Page. (please allow enough time to send in the mail)

You are also required to pass a riding skills test on the range to receive your Certificate of Completion Card.
